La 84º edición de los Oscar de Hollywood se ha caracterizado por ser de las más rápidas y breves de su longeva historia. También podemos afirmar que a pesar de contar con el regreso de Billy Cristal como maestro de ceremonias, la gala ha sido bastante sosa.
Los premios han estado bastante repartidos aunque los principales han ido a parar a The Artist y los técnicos a La invención de Hugo, ambas con 5 estatuillas.
